It’s been a long while since I updated this website, so tonight I thought I’d tell the world what my plans are for the next 12 months.
During the 2nd half of 2011, I set up Gravex Web Services which all my design and development work will be created under. I felt it was more professional and also more memorable.
Since promoting myself using the Gravex Web Services moniker, I have been given a lot more work to get done, which is an amazing result. So, in the next few months, Gravex Web Services will be set up as a limited company in the United Kingdom.
What this allows me to do is to focus on a more professional approach to my work, as well as offer a better service to clients. There will be a whole host of changes, ranging from client log in system to view hosting packages they have with the company, through to promoting my clients better through social media outlets and other websites. I can tell a few of you will be confused by that last statement, but if you stay with me for the next 12 months, you will see what I mean!
So, what can you expect from this website. Well, the design of this site will be improved but not changed. It’s one of only a handful of websites I’ve designed where I have been truly happy with the result, even 9 months after the site going live! The site will be more personal/community focused. So less of me screaming offers at you, and more content that would be worthy of the 5 minutes you will spend reading it.
In short, stick with me and see what I have cooking. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
My girlfriend of three years decided to do something good for the world a month ago. She decided to do an abseil down a landmark building in Birmingham, UK. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but the building is 100ft tall, and she’s abseiling down the length of the building. It is a big drop!
The charity she is fundraising for is Acorns Children’s Hospice. For those of you outside of the UK, or don’t know what this charity does, Acorns offers care and support to families who have children who are suffering from life shortening illness or life threatening illness. The support they provide these families is invaluable, and I’m sure if you spoke to any of the people who have experienced their support first hand, they would tell you that the support they received was invaluable.
The abseil has been set up by Acorns to help raise money for the important work they do. And as I said, the landmark building they chose is Fort Dunlop. This building used to be the base of Dunlop Tyres until it was converted in to office space recently. The building is 100ft tall. To put this in to perspective, 100ft equates roughly in to a 12/13 storey building. So yes, it is very tall!
I’m sure you can appreciate that this event is very important, and the people taking part are incredibly brave to do such a thing. My girlfriend, Acorns, and the other people who are taking part in the event would be extremely grateful if you could give as little or as much as you can. Every little helps, so don’t feel bad if you can only give £1, and don’t feel like your being brazen by giving £100. All the money raised has the same power to help care and change a child’s life for the better, and all the money goes to Acorns to help them with their work.
To help, please visit my girlfriends fundraising page, or visit Acorns Childrens Hospice for more information.
The 21st April is a very important day! Not only will my website have been live for a whole month, but also it’s the last day you can take advantage of my special opening offers!
They won’t be around for much longer! Already many companies and individual people have taken advantage of these offers, don’t be the group of people who leave it too late to get the website you’ve always wanted for the fraction of the cost!
To see what offers are available, please visit the offers section of my website.
Out of my group of friends, I was the first to own a Blackberry. Back then, Blackberry’s were being seen in public being used by celebrities and politicians, but ordinary Joe Public wasn’t interested. Although the guys and girls who did use a Blackberry, used them for their intended purpose. To send and receive emails and to keep track of work e-mails.
That was in 2008. Fast forward to 2011, and RIM (the people who make Blackberry phones) are one of the biggest manufacturers of smartphones in the world, and the Blackberry phones they produce are now considered one of the two main rivals of the Apple iPhone (Android based smartphones being the other rival). People today use their Blackberry’s to update their statuses on Facebook, use Twitter, and use it as an MP3 player while at the gym.
The problem is, there is a lack of education about these phones. They store an immense amount of personal data, and many Blackberry handsets aren’t password protected. Mostly because the user “can’t be bothered to enter a password all the time”. But these are the first people to be surprised that their Blackberry has been stolen and some people in Thailand have accessed their bank accounts with the details saved on to their Blackberry phones.
Originally, Blackberry phones were intended for business use. This meant that the IT company a user belonged to could lock down the lost Blackberry and wipe it of all personal data. Effectively rendering the phone useless to criminals. But, as personal usage of Blackberry phones increased, this protection wasn’t passed on to the ordinary consumer. Until now of course!
The “Blackberry Pocket” application allows users to do several things to their phone. For example, data on the phone can be backed up via Wi-Fi to their computer, and if you misplace your phone somewhere in the house, it can let off a loud ring (even if silent) to let you know where it is.
The feature I like is that you can track down your mobile phone if it’s been lost further afield than your own home. It will use the mobile’s GPS system to locate where the phone actually is. But (and here’s why you should really have it), it allows you to lock down the phone if it has been stolen or your unable to find it. For the peace of mind of knowing no one can read your emails or private data, it makes this free app all the more appealing!
Blackberry Pocket is still only in BETA (which means it will have some bugs on it), but it is available for download from the Blackberry App World service.
I’ve ran this website for the past two, three years. And now this website is in it’s third incarnation, and better than ever!
This new website features a revamped design, a latest news section, and an improved portfolio section. As well as this, the whole site has been built using HTML 5 and CSS 3. These are the latest programming languages that will be used extensively on newer websites (including websites I develop). HTML 5 has already been used by Google for it’s search page and has proven very successful.
The use of HTML 5 and CSS 3 should be treated with care, as Internet Explorer 7 & 8 do not support it. However, there is a way around this, and this will be something I will look at in my Blog section.
Also, as my site is being relaunched, I have a set of opening offers. Offers such as 50% Off Website Design and 50% Off Website Consultancy won’t be available anywhere else. So strike while the iron is hot, and visit my Offers section of the website.
I hope you enjoy my website and find it useful. I am available for work also, so if you feel there is a project you have that needs doing that I would be of great help to, please contact me by clicking on the post it note at the top of the screen!
